Sport England - Strategy Development

Working with National Governing Bodies

Sport England have developed a tool to help facilitate the on-going engagement between NGBs and local deliverers. B2B NGB Engagement Tools can be found at this link and gives direct access to both the NGB Summary Documents, which give a high level overview of an NGBs plan for 2013-17 and the B2B NGB Products Tool, a web based directory detailing specific NGB products and approaches.

We are now being contacted directly by NGBs outlining their priorities. Early indications are that many NGBs are approaching the challenge of 1x30 mins with much more focus on broad based participation programmes, getting people into their sports for the first time and/or bringing people back into their sports.  They are also much more focused on the groups they want to reach. Therefore one challenge for LA’s will be to try and add value to the process and join up offers across a range of sports promoting the right offer to the right people.

England Athletics are keen to start dialogue directly with any Local Authorities that have identified running/athletics as a priority sport/activity as part of their strategic objectives.

England Athletics Facilities Strategy - this focuses on the investment in the recreational element of athletics.   England Athletics intend to work with local athletics networks and local authorities to develop local ‘sustainable facilities strategies’ that highlight the gaps in provision and priorities for the area.

England Athletics Whole Sport Plan - this summary gives a flavour of the key areas of focus for the next 4 years; Club and coach development is at the heart of the strategy but the plans also include the recruitment of activator positions across the country, programmes such as Street Games, school club links, satellite clubs, doorstep sport, the Athlefit pilot as part of a ‘get back into’ programme for adults.

Procurement Toolkit

Sport England has published a toolkit and guidance on leisure contracts and procurement. Developed in partnership with the sector the focus is to assist client bodies (like Local Authorities) adopt good practice, reduce cost and time in the process and to achieve contract partnerships which can deliver local outcomes.  You can download the documents here.
