A New Strategy for Culture: Boosting Access to Arts, Heritage & Culture

The Culture White Paper, the first strategy for arts and culture in more than 50 years, was published in March.

It sets out the Government's ambitions for the cultural sectors. Headline actions include a new expectation that all publicly-funded arts organisations must increase access for young people from disadvantaged backgrounds, reviews of Museums, Arts Council England and the Heritage Lottery Fund and a new 'Great Place Scheme' to make culture a core part of local authority plans.

Polly Hamilton, Head of Culture, Heritage, Libraries and Arts at Blackpool Council and cCLOA Vice-Chair gave a presentation at the Westminster Briefing event on 'Improving Partnership Working' which covered:

  • Putting culture at the core
  • The Great Places scheme
  • Developing local and national partnerships

You can view the presentation pptxhere.   Polly has also prepared a pdfshort briefing note on the DCMS Great Places Scheme, which is shortly due to launch.
