Sport England strategy Towards an Active Nation sets out how they will work with national and local partners to ensure everyone in England can benefit from sport and physical activity.

They work in partnership with local authorities through seven investment programmes:

  • Supporting sport's core market

In addition to advocacy and advice they have developed a range of tools, publications and guidance to help local authorities increase the quantity and quality of opportunities to take part in sport.

Active Lives Survey

The Active Lives Survey explores participation in leisure and recreational activities, including sport, physical activity and culture. The survey is led by Sport England in partnership with the Arts Council, Public Health England and Department for Transport.  The survey collects representative data from the  14+ population in England and in each local authority area in England.

The latest findings for the year to mid-November 2017 were published in March 2018 and focus on activity levels. Results covering the period mid-May 2017 to mid-May 2018 will be released in October 2018. Find out more here.

Active Lives Online is a reporting and analysis tool for the Active Lives Survey results.  It is free and simple to access via site registration. It will enable you to view pre-defined survey results and undertake interactive analysis and comparison.
