This collaborative webinar with CLOA, LGA and University of Southampton was hosted by our Chair Donna Pentelow and provided practical support for councils undertaking cultural strategies.
The recording of the event can be accessed here (1 hour 39 mins) along with the transcript.
It featured an introduction to the context for the Cultural Strategies Think-kit from Ian Leete, Senior Adviser – Culture, Tourism and Sport at LGA.
Dan Ashton, Professor of Cultural and Creative Industries at University of Southampton, then introduced the Cultural Strategies and Futures research and how the recommendations from the report were developed through a community of practice into a Think Kit, which includes practical resources, tools and templates linked to various areas to focus on in developing and maintaining a cultural strategy. Presentation here.
The Cultural Strategies Think Kit can be accessed by registering using this form. Your contact details will only be used to provide updates and invite you to participate in the ongoing evaluation of the Think Kit.
User case studies were shared by two CLOA Members on how they have connected with the resources and the components that have been particularly helpful within their working context:-
- Michelle Butler, Culture Development Officer Canterbury City Council – presentation here.
- Elise Hurcombe Arts Development Manager at Bristol Council – presentation here.
The Cultural Strategies Network has been developed to build up a national community of practice of support. There are bi-monthly online meetings that focus on a topic that changes each time, general discussion led by who is there and what they would like to explore, and questions about and experiences with the Think Kit. To support the online meetings, there is a LinkedIn group. Details for both on the Network and Share page.
There are several opportunities to share experiences and provide feedback about the Think Kit to help with ongoing development and understanding the impact. These are gathered on the User Experiences page.
