CLOA South East Meetings
This is The South East CLOA Network agendas, notes and presentations from past meetings can be found below. a network of Chief Culture and Leisure officers and senior officers with responsibility for culture and sport services across the South East.

Network event 16th October 15, Dementia friendly communities – how sport and culture can contribute to this Government priority.
The programme included presentations on:
- The Governments new Sports Strategy – implications for Local Government
- Crawley, a Dementia Friendly Community – how leisure and culture is pivotal in living well with dementia
- ASA Dementia Friendly Swimming Project – how leisure centres are adapting to be dementia friendly
- Improving Wellbeing Through Reminiscence and the Arts – how a partnership approach with the Council, CCG and community sector, in Lewisham, is supporting those with dementia and their carers.

Network event 27th March 15, Planning for change, commissioning pilots and driving participation
The programme included presentations on:
- Future Changes in Local Government – what impact will this have on your services? – Nigel Lynn, Chief Executive, Arun District Council
- Key Learning from the CLOA /Sport England Commissioning Pilot Study – Joel Brookfield, Sport England & Diana Shelton, Head of Leisure and Communities, West Oxfordshire and Cotswold District Councils
- ‘This Girl Can’ – making the campaign drive participation in your local area – Joel Brookfield, Sport England
- 1Life, a Principal Sponsor, presented a case study from Wokingham Borough Council

Network event 16th May 14, Public Health and Physical Activity – how to impact on wider health outcomes
As well as having been a widely requested theme in the feedback from the inaugural South East members meeting, the selection of Public Health and Physical Activity as the core theme for the event coincided with the publication of CLOA’s Health and Wellbeing Guidance.
The programme included presentations on:
- What does a Public Health commissioner want? Ruth Shaw, Senior Health Improvement Specialist (Physical Activity lead), Public Health and Wellbeing, Royal Borough of Greenwich
- Health & wellbeing intervention case study. Paul Hogan, Divisional Director of Culture and Sport, London Borough of Barking and Dagenham
- Innovative approaches to physical activity within the built environment. Alliance Leisure, CLOA Sponsor
