Building Leadership Resilience

This session focused on bolstering members personal resilience, developing a peer support network, leadership fundamentals, distributed leadership and using data more effectively to assist with decision making. The session particularly aimed to help those CLOA members who are facing challenges in the current climate, leading transformation projects or have a new/expanded portfolio of service.

  • Building Networks – Nigel Lynn, Chief Executive, West Berkshire Council and CLOA Executive Committee member, Chaired the session and set out the importance of external peer support, drawing on person experiences linked to the current cost of living crisis and past challenges. He highlighted the leadership support advice, resources and networks that he has found invaluable on his career journey.
  • Everyone can lead – Val Birchall, CLOA Immediate Past Chair, shared her reflections on leadership and top tips for influencing and advocacy. Val also covered the benefits of distributed leadership as a mechanism to both develop and diversify the next generation of leaders and share the responsibility of decision-making.
  • Befriending your data – Thorsten Dreyer, CLOA Executive Committee member covered a four step process to help leaders use data more effectively, to inform decision making and move from data to actionable insight that can be mobilised to address challenges.
