Cultural Compacts

Chaired by CLOA Executive member Jonathan Cochrane, this roundtable focused in on the Cultural Compact initiative championed by Arts Council England with presentations from four successful Cultural Compacts that explored how and why local authorities can be critical to their success.

Presentations

Paul Bristow, Director for Strategic Partnerships and Place Policy, Arts Council England presented on Building capacity locally outlining the history of the Cultural Compact Place Based Initiative as well as more recent evaluation findings from the Place Based Peer Learning Network.

Professor Sue Rigby, Vice Chancellor of Bath Spa University and Chair of the West Country Cultural Compact shared the lessons learned from the West of England Cultural Compact and wider indicators of likely success for a Cultural Compact.

Jane Earl, Independent Chair of Sunderland Culture, talked about Partnerships for culture.

Nic Millington, Chair of the Cultural Compact in Hereford gave a presentation on the Herefordshire Cultural Compact, covering the background, impact, and looking ahead.

Surriya Falconer, Chair of the Sheffield Culture Collective considered The private sector and culture – does it and can it work?
