Are you interested in a development opportunity to be involved in physical activity policy at a national and strategic level?
The Local Government Physical Activity Partnership’s (LGPAP) common purpose is to “work collaboratively to improve and articulate the social and economic value of public physical activity service provision.” The partnership was established in 2018 and is made up of senior representatives from Active Partnerships, APSE, CLOA, Community Leisure UK, District Councils Network, Local Government Association, Sport England, ukactive and Office for Health Improvement and Disparities.
We are undertaking some exciting work around systems change, tackling health inequalities and the role of physical activity in tackling climate change. If you are passionate about this work and able to commit a day a fortnight for at least six months, then this development opportunity may well be for you. You will help coordinate this work, lead on creating a delivery plan and attend the partnership meetings. We imagine that you would be seconded by your existing employer, who would continue to cover your salary costs.
Previous candidates who have completed the development opportunity have said:
“I have really enjoyed my time with LGPAP. One of the most valuable aspects of my time has been the opportunity to collaborate with professionals from diverse backgrounds across the country, which has allowed me to stay at the forefront of industry developments and bring back valuable insights to my own organisation. This networking experience has not only broadened my perspective but has also equipped me with the knowledge and connections necessary to drive positive change within my own community. Working alongside senior experts from multi-agency organisations has further enhanced my understanding of the importance of collaboration and effective policy implementation. Participating in key discussions including those addressing the emergence of Integrated Care Systems, community dynamics, leadership strategies, and the importance of collaboration at both local and national levels, has emphasised the importance of our combined efforts in combating inactivity and promoting wellbeing. I would thoroughly recommend this opportunity to anybody working in the industry seeking to gain invaluable experience and make a meaningful impact.”
(Steven Liddell, current secondee)
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement with LGPAP, which has given me a more in-depth insight into the role physical activity has to play in addressing health inequalities and contributing to the Levelling Up agenda. Working alongside senior experts from multi-agency organisations has improved my understanding of the importance of collaboration and the implementation of policy. Being involved in key discussions such as the new Integrated Care Systems, understanding the pressure of climate change, supporting and upskilling our workforce has given me the confidence to recognise the important role we all have to play in reducing inactivity and improving overall wellbeing. I would like to thank everyone in the partnership for enabling my development, especially Ian Brooke who has been an excellent mentor and the leadership team at Vision Redbridge Culture & Leisure for supporting my secondment.”
