Clive Efford MP, Shadow Minister for Sport – Challenges for the next government
Clive discussed the policy challenges for a Labour government, the need to embed sport and physical activity in health & education and the importance of local authorities in a future sports plan.
Shaun Dawson, Chief Executive, Lee Valley Regional Park Authority – LVRPA’s Olympic journey
Our host gave a presentation on the LVRPA’s Olympic journey including the design and business modelling process to ensure that the legacy venues are viable and sustainable. The presentation also set out how these venues are striving to achieve the balance between being community focused and commercially driven.
Joel Lavery, National Partnership Manager, British Cycling – Inspiration to Participation
The British Cycling story of sustaining medal success and inspiring over 1 million people to get on their bikes through partnership with Local Government. The presentation also outlined how British Cycling has evolved and diversified to influence the cycling landscape, working more closely with LA’s and the private sector to deliver a lasting Legacy from 2012.
Lyndsey Swift, Head of Strategic Partnerships & Engagement, Visit England – Culture at the heart of the visitor economy
Lyndsey set out the context, challenges and opportunities for closer partnership working at national and local levels between the cultural & tourism sectors. Focusing on the VisitEngland/Arts Council England Cultural Destinations Programme, which aims to deliver growth through putting the cultural offer at the heart of the visitor economy.
Samuel West – Chair, National Campaign for the Arts & David Brownlee – Executive Director, UK Theatre
Samuel & David highlighted how the 50p for culture campaign and the Arts Index, a health check of the arts, are being used to try and safeguard and increase local authority investment in arts, museums and heritage.
